Earlier this month, SettleMint brought our Blockchain-based business solutions to Gartner Symposium ITxpo 2018 in Barcelona. It was a great opportunity to put a spotlight on MINT, our distributed Blockchain middleware, as well as to meet top industry players, to learn about new emerging trends and to get valuable experts’ insights.

A new wave of technological disruption is upon us. Our homes become smarter, our cars become smarter, we communicate differently — just to name a few of the technology-driven changes that are happening now. The next generation of the Internet — the Internet of value — is already here with the emergence of Blockchain technologies over the past few years, and we are very excited to be at the center of this change.

No surprise that this year, Blockchain was one of the key topics at Gartner Symposium ITxpo 2018. Earlier this month, we headed to Barcelona to present our cutting-edge Blockchain solutions (MINT, TokenMint and CertiMint), to network with peer innovators and potential business partners, and to get first-hand insights about the market.

Gartner estimates the business value generation of Blockchain will grow to 3.1 Trillion USD annually over the next ten years so we were eager to be present to demonstrate in real-time exactly how this business value will be generated.

Gartner Symposium was a phenomenal success for SettleMint this year.

“Whether you call it “digital transformation” or “the 4th Industrial Revolution” I am sure that every participant at the Symposium is somewhere on this journey,” says Matthew Van Niekerk, Co-founder and CEO at SettleMint.

SettleMint was the only Blockchain focused company invited to present at Gartner.

“As the only blockchain focused company invited to present at Gartner, we were very happy to immediately expose this technology in practice to the participants. In total, we provided more than 240 demonstrations of our core technology to create digital assets and secure documents on chain. I was very pleased when one participant remarked “…after all the presentations, your demo makes it crystal clear how blockchain can be applied directly in my business, in less than 5 minutes!” Well that is our motto “we make blockchain technology easy” was my reply. Happy to contribute to the knowledge building that Gartner Symposium embodies and happy to be returning next year,” concludes Matthew Van Niekerk.

The Blockchain content from Gartner in the formal Blockchain presentations was very informative for the participants, supporting them in positioning Blockchain technology in the broader technological shift that is already well underway.

In case you have not attended the event, we picked 5 key takeaways from the panel discussions that we would like to share with our community:

  1. The Blockchain Society will be loosely bound and fluid. Traditional society stays within boundaries. Blockchain ignores boundaries and transports you across many kinds of borders.
  2. Blockchain offers new organisational structures. It changes the notion of control and authority, and puts out the notion of more democratised and decentralised way of making decisions and participating for the greater good.
  3. Society will be transformed by community facilitated digital assets. Blockchain enables us to create different kinds of assets. We can create entirely new digital assets, like bitcoin, or we can represent other assets using Blockchain (particularly in the context of data). This was previously not possible to do in a decentralised way. Tokenize your ecosystem!
  4. The future of money evolves into a future of value. Money is changing dramatically. Crypto tokens, gaming tokens, complementary currencies are thriving (more than 8k!). In the coming years, we will need to figure out what is valuable for us. Is our time, the code we write or our intellectual property or all of the above? All of these can be tokenized with Blockchain, so they can be shared in a friction-free way and/or monetized.
  5. And finally, here is a futuristic idea that is absolutely fascinating. Blockchain is not only about people and organisations. Machines and devices will get more provenance, more intelligence and their own identity enabling them to interact independently. Such an environment raises questions about people’s future and what our role will be?

Based on the enthusiasm we saw, it’s clear that no matter how the future evolves Blockchain will be part of it.
